RAITH Rovers have made their first new signings of the summer — but their identities are to remain a mystery.
The Kirkcaldy club has decided not to announce the names of its two new arrivals until the deals are confirmed, in writing, with the Scottish Football Association.
While the strict stance means a frustrating wait for fans keen to find out who the new faces are, manager John McGlynn can be forgiven for keeping his cards close to his chest.
Two summers ago the Stark's Park boss was left stunned when, after announcing the signing of Paul McManus, a problem with the paperwork on the player's contract meant he was, in fact, still a free agent.
That allowed McManus to move to rivals East Fife with Rovers receiving no compensation, and no shortage of embarrassment.
While a similar situation arising is probably unlikely, McGlynn is not willing to take a chance, despite rival First Division clubs making several transfer deals public already.
"We have had a situation in the past where we had a signed player who managed to sign for someone else," he stressed.
"We'll not be making any statements until we've got confirmation from the SFA that the players are registered with them."
McGlynn did confirm that the double signing swoop involved the capture of a new striker and a midfield player.
"It's strikers we've been looking at, and we've added a player who we feel is going to play in a striking role, and we've added a midfield player," he confirmed.
The mystery duo could be joined by a further two new arrivals this summer as McGlynn revealed: "We never felt we were going to bring in a stack of players because we've got the majority of the squad from last year. I'm looking at possibly, by the end, maybe having four new players."
Signing targets, McGlynn confirmed, include both part-time and full-time players.
"I'm still having to bring in part-time players, because the budget doesn't stretch to make everyone full-time," he said. "There will still be a mixture and while the majority will be full-time, it won't be a massive majority."
The saga surrounding the possible return of Marvin Andrews has yet to reach a conclusion, with the player currently in Trinidad and Tobago with the international squad.
He is hoping to earn his 100th cap for his country in this Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica.
"We'll give him every opportunity to figure out what's best for him," McGlynn said.
ROVERS first competitive match of the new season will be at Forthbank after the club was drawn away to Stirling Albion in the first round of the Challenge Cup.
The tie is on Saturday, July 25.
