RAITH Rovers have confirmed their first signings of the summer – and there are still more to come.

Darren Smith and Gregory Tade will meet their new team-mates for the first time – as predicted in last week's Sports Press – when pre-season training gets underway on June 23.

And boss John McGlynn is still looking to strengthen his squad in the countdown to return of Division One football to Stark's Park.

Midfielder Smith was snapped up from Brechin City, while Tade joined after impressing against Rovers while playing for Stranraer.

The 22-year old Frenchman will bring versatility to the squad, and may be used up front alongside Graham Weir as well as in midfield.

His experience of playing in Division One will also be an asset –he played with Clyde in the second half of last season – as Rovers prepare to take on some big guns.

McGlynn said: ''Tade is a strong player and I liked what I saw when he played against us.

''He has good skills and scores his fair share of goals which could give us options for next season.''

Tade's footballing CV also includes spells with Forfar and Stranraer since moving into Scottish football from Orvault Sports Football in 2006-07.

Smith (29) is an experienced player who will add competition for midfield places.

Born in Edinburgh he made almost 200 appearances for Berwick Rangers before joining Brechin City.

Added McGlynn said: "Darren is a player I have admired in every game he has played against us – he willl be suited to our style of play as he is a very good footballer and will cause teams problems from the midfield area.''

The Raith boss is still hunting for a striker to deliver the goals Raith will need to make their mark in Division One, but no names have jumped to the top of the queue.

''I won't bring someone in just for the sake of it,'' he added. ''We are still looking but no-one has stood out yet, but there is still time.''

Raith's pre-season countdown is now well underway with their first friendly booked for July 11 – giving the management team several weeks to work with their squad and assess its potential.

The publication of the fixtures has also generated its own buzz at the club.

Added McGlynn: ''It takes a while to sink in when you actually win the league – and when you study the fixturtes then it really starts to kick in.''
