  • Rovers need to be ruthless to gain promotion
READ and listen to the thoughts of Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn
RAITH Rovers boss John McGlynn is still feeling the pain of the play-off failure — and urged his team to use it as motivation next season.

The squad started preseason training this week with the memory of losing out on promotion to Airdrie United still fresh in the manager's mind.

McGlynn hopes that his players will use the experience to be more ruthless in their bid to win the league when the new season kicks off in August.

"The pain is still there from the play-offs," he said.

"It was a sore one to take and I'm not being derogatory to Airdrie but I don't think they were any better than us.

"I'm hoping that it works as a motivation so we don't go through that again this season.

"For a club of Raith Rovers stature there is only one target for the whole season and that is to get promoted.

"We've knocked on the door twice now and we really need to be ruthless in our determination to get up this season.

"I'm not trying to be smart or big-headed, but this football club is too big to be in this league.

"Other teams in this league will have similar targets but we have to make sure we are fitter, quicker and better than them – and make sure we are the team that gets promoted."
