RAITH Rovers will bid for a league and cup double in back-to-back home games of crucial importance to the Kirkcaldy club's season.

Rovers could take a massive step towards securing First Division safety by defeating Greenock Morton at Stark's Park on Saturday.

And there will be no time to reflect on the outcome as Rovers head straight into the re-arranged Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie United on Monday evening, with a glamour tie against Aberdeen awaiting the winner.

Rovers boss John McGlynn hopes his players rise to the occasion and produce a repeat of the form shown in the 1-0 defeat of Partick Thistle on Saturday.

"It looked like the break did us the world of good on Saturday – but one game is not evidence to be sure of that," he said.

"If we beat Morton and Airdrie and play the same way then that will be more convincing that we're back to the form we showed at the start of the season.

"Considering what's at stake, two victories would mean everything to everyone at the football club."

Rovers win over Partick saw the Kirkcaldy side move onto 26 points in the league — a full 14 points clear of second bottom Ayr United.
However, McGlynn refused to accept that Rovers relegation fears are easing.

"Clyde went down with 39 points last season, while Airdrie had 42, so we're not out of the woods yet," he warned.

"Every year is different, and it's possible that certain teams could be left adrift, so you might not need as many points as teams did last year to stay up.

"The only way for us to guarantee anything is to continue to strive for consistency in results in the weeks ahead. That will determine whether we stay up.

"How many points we are on at the moment does not really come into it. There's still enough games left for anyone to go on a run. There's a lot of games to catch up on.

"We're really delighted with the number of points we have on the board, but we need to set ourselves a target to catch the teams above us, while realising we can't take anything for granted or we'll start tumbling down the league."

Rovers lost 5-0 to Morton the last time the sides met at Cappielow in November, but McGlynn shrugged off any suggestions of seeking pay-back.

"Revenge is not a concern of mine," he stressed. "We've got to take every game on its own merit, and play the same style regardless of the opposition.

"Our last match against Morton wasn't our best day, but we had numerous suspensions and injuries — and then got more during the game.

"We'll look to attack Morton and score enough goals to win the game, same as we try to do every Saturday. We have to be very selfish and think about how much good we could do ourselves by winning."

The cup tie against Airdrie will be Stark's Park's third attempt at hosting the game after Tuesday night's match was postponed for a second time due to a frozen pitch.

"It was a huge disappointment for everyone to lose the game," McGlynn said. "Winning on Saturday against a good Partick team had created a great buzz about the football club and we were all very much up for the game.

"We now have to deal with the upheaval that comes with another postponement.

"We'll keep our fingers crossed that we don't pick up any injuries on Saturday so we have a fit squad on Monday."

Iain Davidson and Darren Smith are both struggling with foot injuries, while Iain Williamson is back in training after missing the Partick match with a stomach bug.

Dougie Hill will complete his suspension against Morton on Saturday and will be available for selection for Monday's cup tie.

The re-arrangement of the Airdrie match means that the Fife derby game against Dunfermline, due to be played at East End Park on Tuesday, has been cancelled. No new date has been set.
