LOCHEE United took another step towards a second Whyte & Mackay East Super League crown last weekend, when they defeated Bathgate Thistle and news filtered through that Whitburn had lost to Camelon.
The Bluebells, therefore, can move even closer to title glory tomorrow when they play host to Tayport, at Thomson Park.
'Port, however, will be out to dent Lochee's hopes and move themselves into a loftier position in the top flight table.
Further motivation comes from the previous two meetings between the sides, both in cup competitions, both won on penalties by Lochee United.
Frank Conway's troops forged a two-goal lead in the DJ Laing League Cup final, in Carnoustie, only to be pegged back, courtesy of a couple of refereeing decisions, then narrowly lose the ensuing shoot-out.
Then, last midweek, Tayport's Darren Scott opened the scoring in an East of Scotland Cup tie, only for veteran forward Paul Ritchie to quickly equalise.
On this occasion, Tayport were never in contention in the 12-yard lottery and Lochee were again clinical.
So, the Tayport players will be out to prove, once again, that they can compete with the Thomson Parkers, but they will have to be at their most dogged, as Lochee are a very strong outfit, with an abundance of talent in their ranks.
The likes of Callum Hardie and Craig Robertson are a goal scoring threat from midfield, while Paul Blackwood, Paul Ritchie and former Tayport hero, Gary Middleton, contribute their share of goals.
Kick-off on Saturday is at 2.30 p.m. and supporters should 'phone the club's newsline, on 01382 552755, for the latest information.
