THE annual inter-club tournament, organised by the XIXth Hole Golf Club of St Andrews and played over the Eden Course, was won by the Thistle Club.
Seven local clubs took part in the popular event, which is one of the highlights of the spring golfing calendar in St Andrews.

Each team consisted of six players, with the leading four scores counting towards their aggregate total.

The winners finished with a total of 131 points in the stableford competition, only one clear of the runners-up, St Andrews GC.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club and St Regulus Ladies GC finished in equal third place on 123.

Leading individual lady competitor was Ann Gray (St Regulus Ladies) with 36 points, while Duncan Cameron (St Andrews GC) was the top man, also on 36 points.

Representing the winning St Andrews Thistle GC were Derek Gray, Jim Falls, Gerry Wilson, Kenny Crawford, David Grounds and Sean McLean. It was the club's third success in the competition having previously won the coveted trophy in 1985 and 2004.

A presentation ceremony and reception was hosted by the St Andrews New Golf Club and the prizes were handed over by Barrie Liddle, captain of the XIXth Hole GC.

Results - St Andrews Thistle GC 131; St Andrews GC 130; Royal and Ancient Golf Club and St Regulus 123; St Andrews New GC 121; XIXth Hole GC 119; St Rule GC 117.
