  • Glenrothes coach takes up daunting job
KIRKCALDY YM have appointed a new manager to lead their comeback into junior football.
Ex-player Kevin Smart has been handed the difficult task of putting a team together from scratch for YM's return to the East Central League after 12 months in the wilderness.

The club folded at the end of last season after losing its entire squad to rival teams but a new committee has been formed and they have turned to Smart to lead the resurgence.

"It's a daunting job starting from scratch but it's a challenge I'm looking forward to," Smart told SportsPress.

"Being an ex-player and knowing the history of the club, I was very interested in getting it up and running again. It's important to the local community and to junior football."

Smart (39) has left his post as a coach at Super League side Glenrothes in order to start preparing for his first season as a manager.

"The good thing about starting with nothing is that it will be your own team," he said.

"There will be no excuses but I wouldn't have it any other way. It will be my job to bring in boys who can do a job.

"We'll need a bit of experience but I will also be looking at amateur and under 21 players and hoping to develop their talent."

Smart built up contacts at all levels of Fife junior football during an 18-year playing career that included two spells at Kirkcaldy YM and stints at Jubilee Athletic, Glenrothes, Lochore, Thornton and St Andrews.
