THREE football-mad youngsters got the opportunity to train with one of the world’s greatest clubs this month.

Archie Meekison, Billy Boyter and James Collins were invited along to the FC Barcelona training complex during Cupar-based company AMsoccer’s six-day tour to the city.

Over 100 kids and parents travelled to Spain, where the youngsters trained at top-class facilities, played against local teams and were among the 80,000 supporters who watched Barcelona beat Almeria 3-1 in the famous Nou Camp stadium.

They also found the time to visit the Port Aventura theme park and were able to sample some of the culture, putting into practice the linguistic skills picked up during Spanish lessons held in preparation for the trip.

A select team of AMsoccer players took on a side from professional club Espanyol — city rivals of FC Barcelona — and remarkably ran out 5-4 winners at their state-of-the-art Sport City training complex.

The icing on the cake was the selection of Archie, Billy and James to take part in a training session next to the Nou Camp — according to club records the first Scots to train with Barcelona since Steve Archibald in 1988!

Austin MacPhee, managing director of AMsoccer, described the tour as a “huge success”, adding that it had exceeded all expectations.
