The community ethos of a local sports club has been recognised with a cash reward as part of a nationwide grassroots sports initiative.
Glenrothes Cricket Club, along with 160 other sports clubs from across Britain have been awarded £500 to purchase sports equipment as part of Skipton Building Society’s Grassroots Giving project.
Funding was secured when the public voted in their droves for Glenrothes club after their story was highlighted on the building society’s website.
Gail Hickman from Skipton Building Society’s explained the reasons for the initiative: “It is inspiring to see so many brilliant local community groups working hard to improve our local community and it is with great pleasure that we can help them continue their work.
“Typically these grassroots groups struggle to secure vital funding due to their size, and this is something we wanted to change when we launched this pioneering initiative.”
