Disabled golfers take up the challenge at Cupar
THE latest Scottish Disability Golf match for the Order of Merit title race was held at Cupar Golf Club on Sunday, July 5.
Players and their coaches from around the country accepted an invitation from the captain and council to once again play this challenging course.
Members, who travelled from places including Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Fife and Perthshire, took on the hilly but superbly manicured course, after a rain delayed start.
One of the new SDGP members from Fife said: "The course was in great condition and the greens were in excellent order, even after the recent heat and lack of rain.
"The rain that we encountered didn't last too long and it gave us the chance to enjoy the warm clubhouse welcome from the members and staff. A great day all round."
There were a handful of new members playing and included those with health conditions like learning disabilities, the blind, amputees, the deaf, and others with serious health problems.
Results of the Cupar match, which was sponsored by the Cupar Golf Club and the Bruce Trust:
1 SDGP player with 43 points was Bob Drysdale of Tayport; 2 SDGP player with 40 points was Steve Bramwell of Johnstone.
1 SDGP coach with 29 points was Kevin McKay of Edinburgh; 2 SDGP coach with 25 points was Paul Shepherd of Tayport.
The overall winning team consisted of Paul Shepherd and Bob Drysdale of Tayport and Jim Gales, from Springfield.
