Glenrothes fencer Chloe Dickson continued her preparation for this summer’s Junior Commonwealth Championships in South Africa by claiming a national title.
Chloe competed in two weapons, woman’s foil and sabre, at the 2015 Scottish Senior Open, which took place on the weekend of January 24 and 25 at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh.
On the Saturday Chloe fenced in the women’s foil, after winning all 11 poule fights, and dropping only seven hits the whole day, she was seeded first going into the direct elimination rounds.
She came through the early rounds easily before defeating Edinburgh Fencing Club team mate Katie Smith in the semi-final, and then went on to beat another EFC team mate, Victoria Duxbury, 15-2 in the final to become the 2015 Scottish Open Woman’s Foil champion.
Sunday was the woman’s sabre event, a weapon Chloe only competes in occasionally, so she was quite surprised to make it through to the final where she lost 15-11, and came home with the silver medal.
It’s another great tournament for Chloe who is now training for the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships being held in South Africa this summer.
