FRESH attempts are to be made to lure Fife Flyers to the Elite League.

After speculative enquiries from Elite club owners were made without success, official channels between Fife and the EIHL heirarchy are now expected to be opened.

Elite League chairman Eamon Convery confirmed: “We would look forward to having constructive discussions with the objective being to explore the opportunity of Fife commencing in the Elite League.

“It has been a little while since official communication took place and the door was always left open. It is expected that following another successful play-off weekend, direct contact with Fife will be made to see if progress can be made.”

SportsPress has made repeated attempts to contact Flyers chairman Tom Muir in order to clarify the club’s position without success.

However the club has released a statement simply to deny that any Elite League talks “of any kind” have taken place as yet.

“No offer has been made or discussed and consequently no offer declined,” it read.

Meanwhile an online petition calling on Fife Flyers to join the Elite League continues to attract wide support.

At the time of going to print, the internet poll had received 466 signatures.
