Glenrothes Juniors 1, Bathgate Thistle 3

A minute silence was held before kick off in memory of Glens committee man Andy Rennie.

Glenrothes started on the front foot but created very few chances. Following a fine move a cross from Griffin was cleared by the defence, a crossfield ball from Griffin was just too short for the onrushing Wylie.

Another cross from the busy Griffin found Wallace but his effort was punched clear by Shaw in the Bathgate goal then a John Martin free kick was well wide of the target.

At the other end Bathgate were coming more and more into the match as Easton’s shot was met by Murphy but his effort was wide of the mark, then another effort from Jack was well saved by Gay.

Glenrothes won a series of corners but could not breach the Bathgate goal, meanwhile the dangerous Easton was again providing the crosses for Bathgate with Gay plucking the ball out of the air.

A great through ball by Wylie had Martin rushing in on goal only to be beaten to the ball by Watson, then another through ball from Anderson had Scarborough running in on goal but again Watson came to the rescue.

A minute later Griffin broke clear but there was no one there to finish his cross.

The half finished with with a run from Martin but his effort was punched clear by the keeper, a half that the Glens had dominated, but with no end product.

Things changed a minute into the second half when Bathgate took the lead after the defence stopped playing, waiting for the referee to blow for offside and Jack ran on and shot home.

Glens pressed for the equaliser and a cross cum shot by Wallace was saved by the keeper, another chance from Scarborough was saved by the keeper.

Glenrothes fought their way back into the game in the 54th minute when a rocket shot by Martin from the edge of the box gave Shaw no chance.

The game was in the balance with chances for both sides to take the lead but Bathgate were to gain the advantage when Wylie was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle.

Bathgate were now edging it with the extra man with Gay keeping Glenrothes in the game, rushing from his goal to clear a breakaway run from Jack.

Bathgate made their numerical advantage count in the 75th minute when a cross from the right found Jack who headed home.

The visitors put the game beyond Glenrothes in the 83rd minute when substitute Wales beat the offside trap to shoot home.

The Glens huffed and puffed with chances falling to Scarborough and Martin but to no avail.
