An umbrella group for community football clubs in St Andrews and north east Fife is inviting more local teams and individuals to join it.
The St Andrews Community Football Club is now entering its second year as it continues to develop its aim of making St Andrews a vibrant footballing town.
The initial involved parties were St Andrews Colts, St Andrews University, St Andrews Amateurs, St Andrews United and Madras College.
But as the community club builds on its first year, the invite has gone out to any club or person within St Andrews and the East Neuk to join the group and help to build a pathway for all to develop their skills and abilities, whether these are in playing or coaching.
A community club spokesman told The Citizen: “We are opening the invitation to anybody who has an interest in strengthening football in the St Andrews locality.
“We believe that we should have a strong network of clubs and a clear pathway for all, especially boys and girls, to follow - instead of losing them to other facilities or venues remote from our local area and then seeing those other areas reap the benefits.
“We have already taken a massive step by getting many parties round the same table and with the help of the SFA east region we are set to build on the hard work already carried out.
“However, we are keen to be as inclusive as possible by getting enthusiastic, keen people involved to make it happen, which is the most challenging bit.”
Any person or club within the target area can get in touch with the community club by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone on 07825 883608.
One of those heavily involved with the community football club is the local junior side, St Andrews United.
One of the aims of the club is to try to help youngsters use the club’s pathway to one-day join the junior set up.
This weekend Saints travel across the Forth Bridge and on to Dalkeith Thistle for an East Region Premier League clash.
The Annual General Meeting of St Andrews United Football Club will be held in the dressing room area of The Parkk, Langlands Road, St Andrews at 7.00p.m. on September 19.
All Members of the football club are welcome, members of St Andrews United Social Club may also attend.
