I’m here to work hard and find the net

Chris Duggan knows he’s the man expected to fire East Fife up League One when the new campaign starts.

The former Partick and Queen’s Park striker has been brought to Bayview by boss Gary Naysmith, and he’s well aware of exactly what his remit is this term.

Duggan had to sit out Saturday’s friendly win over Spartans but is itching to get the shooting boots back on and show the Fife support what he can do.

He said: “I’ll do what I’ve been doing my entire career at East Fife which is work hard, lead the line from the front and score goals.

“That’s what I am here for - to put the ball in the back of the net.”

The revamped Betfred League Cup means the competitive campaign is starting this term a lot earlier than usual.

East Fife organised three quickfire friendlies against Spartans, Edinburgh City and Aberdeen to shake off any rust before Dundee visit Bayview on July 16.

“It’s a bizarre situation to be in,” said Duggan.

“But the boys all want to be involved in games and it adds a little bit of excitement into your pre-season schedule before the season even really starts.”

And the season is certainly set to be an exciting one for the Fifers, who make their return to League One after an absence for a couple of seasons.

“Everybody will be going into this league with the utmost confidence,” said Duggan.

“Coming off the back of a league title win will help that for us.

“We don’t see anybody to fear in the league this year.”

Duggan watched on last season as his Queen’s Park side were amongst those beaten to the title by East Fife.

The 22-year-old says there was a lot to admire about the way the Fifers went about their business.

“The gaffer turned them into a great outfit,” he said.

“Our results weren’t too bad against East Fife last year but they didn’t win the league by luck.

“They were obviously the best team over the course of the season and that showed in the end.”
