Rivals play out a Bayview blinder
ON-FORM Brechin brought the best out of East Fife as both sides served up a treat.
Although all the goals were scored during a frantic first half, the near-600 fans were given absolute value for money throughout the 90 minutes.
Brechin came into the match on a series of wins and their attacking style suited the Methil men, who also looked to burst forward when they could.
Collin Samuel and Bobby Barr netted for the Fifers with Alan Trouten and Derek Carcarry scoring for Brechin.
Methil boss Billy Brown agreed both sides deserved huge credit.
He said: “I thought it was a superb game.
“In the first half, Brechin started really well and went ahead twice against us but we showed a lot of character to come back.
“In the second half, only one team should have won it; we were the far better team.”
Trouten gave his side the lead when a David McKenna effort rebounded of the post and fell kindly for him.
He netted with ease before Samuel pulled the Methil men level with a header.
East Fife weren’t level for long and Carcarry restored the advantage with a drilled shot which flew under Calum Antell.
Goal of the game came from Barr, though, when he unleased an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box which sailed into the top corner.
Scott McBride passed up a couple of second half chances to win the game before the Fifers were given a scare when Andy Jackson burst in on Antell’s goal, only to nudge his effort wide.
Brown added: “I’ve said to the players that the difference from the first game I took over against Alloa to that is a bit different.
“Our lads, from a team which, six or seven weeks ago were bottom of the league, were superb.
“If Bobby Barr’s goal had been in the SPL, it would be goal of the week.”
