EAST Fife’s resurgence under new boss Billy Brown continued as Arbroath were turned over at Bayview.
The win followed on from last week’s comfortable 3-0 victory at Albion Rovers, and offers some suggestion that the Methil men have their season back on track.
Brown stuck with Sean Jamieson and Liam Gormley in attack but also drafted in trialist Collin Samuel for a place on the bench.
Samuel was part of the Fifers’ pre-season campaign, but it’s believed he has recently been vying for a contract abroad.
Paul Sheerin tested Calum Antell in the first minute with a dipping strike that the Fife ‘keeper had to tip over the bar.
From there, though, the home side grabbed a hold of the game and took an early lead.
Poor David Banjo was tormented by Bobby Barr in the opening stages, with the Arbroath man simply unable to get to grips with the Fife winger.
It was Barr who created the opener for Jamieson after he made his way into the box and squared for the striker, who made no mistake from eight yards.
The Fifers would have been well worth their one-goal lead at the break but it wasn’t to be, as Paul Currie picked up a loose ball and beat Antell.
Arbroath’s fans were then up in arms as Antell brought down Lee Sibanda outside his box.
The visiting supporters were screaming for a red card but referee Barry Cook decided a yellow was sufficient.
The Fifers were clearly smarting at losing their advantage and didn’t take long to restore it.
Arbroath’s defenders foolishly decided to back off Scott McBride and the midfielder punished them by curling a strike beyond Scott Morrison.
Samuel almost wrapped up the win but his long range effort sailed just wide.
