East Fife manager Willie Aitchison said his side are determined not to go out of two cup competitions in the space of a week.
The Methil boss was left to rue some slack defending which he said lead to his side crashing out of the Ramsdens Cup to Forfar, and pledged to avoid the same mistakes on Saturday when Morton come to Bayview in the Scottish League Cup.
He said: “It was a tough game against Forfar. They’re an experienced side but we created our own problems with slack defending for both of their goals.
“When you go two goals down to any side it’s an uphill battle but we got back into it and gave ourselves a chance. It was a decent game at that point but the sending off changed everything.”
Aitchison said this weekend’s clash with Morton, following on from last night’s friendly versus a Celtic XI, would be a tough test for his side.
“It’s a big ask,” he admitted. “Morton themselves had a bad result at the weekend losing to Annan, so they’re going to be fired up to play us.
“They will not want to go out of two cups in seven days either. It’ll be hard for us but we just need to get our heads down and give it our best.”
New signings Liam Buchanan and Nathan Austin made their debuts at the weekend, Buchanan marking his with a goal, and Aitchison said he was delighted to have snapped both players up.
“We had Liam on our radar for some time,” he said. “He’s got a great scoring record throughout his career and has bags of experience and fantastic quality.
“Nathan’s a local lad who was being tracked by quite a few clubs so we’re pleased to have got him. He’s a talented boy.”
Aitchison quashed rumours that Kevin Nade had left the club but confirmed that Liam Gormley has moved on after failing to agree terms.
