Motherwell under 20s................0

EAST Fife under 19s played Motherwell under 20s in this season’s SFA Youth Cup second round.

The signs were ominous as Motherwell had asked for a cancellation the previous week due to the fact several of their under 20s squad were also involved in the first team squad playing that Sunday against Aberdeen.

Motherwell’s coaching staff included Jonatan Johansson, Kenny Black and East Fife goalkeeping legend Gordon Marshall.

Motherwell dominated the opening stages of the match but as time went on the East Fife youngsters grew in confidence.

Motherwell had several chances but made nothing of the opportunities put before them.

East Fife defended well and went in at half time with a deserved 0-0 score line.

Shortly after half time Ryan McAllister was bundled over in the box to win East Fife a penalty.

Mark Shaw stepped up and confidently sent the keeper the wrong way and stroked the ball home.

East Fife gained confidence from the 1-0 lead and continued to push forward.

Motherwell had the majority of the final 20 minutes but the Fife under 19s defended superbly.

Towards the end the visitors enraged the home fans when they refused to return the ball to East Fife after the ball was put out of play to treat an injury.
