The opening game of the New Year saw a reverse fixture of the last match of 2013 with Eastvale visiting Cupar’s Duffus Park.
The previous was a pulsating encounter that saw Hearts run out dramatic 5-4 winners leaving Eastvale with a bitter taste and looking for revenge.
The incentive for the winners of this first round Fence ‘N’ Deck tie was an away trip to face Strathmiglo United.
Eastvale almost opened the scoring when Kevin Johnston sent in a corner and Mark Cramb connected but James Logan cleared.
Seven minutes into the second half an excellent through ball by Paul Cuss found Robert Crawford but his powerful shot was well saved by Connor Christie.
Steven Pennington had two efforts go wide.
The same man did well on 65 minutes when he latched onto a through ball. His run dragged him wide but he managed a shot from a difficult angle but Connor Christie saved.
Hearts made a substitution with Kenny Miller being replaced by Paul Laurie and it was hoped his pace would bring about a goal.
Eastvale that were gifted the opening goal when a free kick by Aaron Clunie went over the defensive wall and a mistake by ‘keeper John Michie saw the ball cross the line.
The goal spurred them on and they got a second with five minutes remaining.
An excellent run and cross by Mark Cramb set up his striker to coolly slot the ball into the back of the net.
Tomorrow Cupar Hearts travel to face Kettle United in a Kingdom Caledonian League match.
Kick off 2.00p.m.
