Thistle travelled to face Glenrothes Strollers in a league tie knowing that a defeat would pull them into the relegation zone.
With top scorer Ireland moving into the junior ranks, the Balmullo side were boosted by return of two former players with Kieran Jukes and Craig Halley signing from St Andrews Amateurs and Cupar Hearts respectively with both taking a place on the bench.
Thistle were moving the ball around well despite the conditions with Band and Smith at the heart of everything and with 12 minutes gone the deadlock was finally broken when Band was upended just outside the box.
Smith stepped up and curled a free kick into the top corner.
Thistle doubled their advantage when a sliced clearance was picked up by Band who looked up before sending the ball into the unguarded net.
Just on the brink of half time Glenrothes pulled a goal back when an error from Robertson gifted possession to Kerr who showed his Thistle namesake how it should be done when he slotted past Henderson.
Just before the hour mark Thistle restored their two goal advantage when Kerr got in behind full back Doyle before sending a good ball into the box where Band was waiting to hammer the ball into the net.
With four minutes remaining Glenrothes set up a nervy finish when the referee failed to notice what looked an easy offside decision as Love collected a long ball before cutting an excellent ball back into the box where Vallery produced an text book header over Henderson.
Thistle managed to contain the Glenrothes surge in the final few minutes and claim the three points.
