Glenrothes Juniors 2, Montrose Roselea 1
Glenrothes started on the front foot but could not take advantage of the couple of early chances they had against their relegation haunted visitors.
The Glens were trying to take advantage of the early possession when Thomson had an effort easily saved by McLeod in the Montrose goal.
Sean Simpson played an excellent through ball to John Martin but his shot hit the side netting.
Reward for their control of the game did not come until the 17th minute when Callum Kinnes had a great run down the left and found Simpson who shot home from 15 yards.
Almost straight from the restart the onslaught continued when, after a couple of rebounds, the ball fell to Aiden Anderson whose shot went over the bar.
An excellent run from Martin finished when Montrose’s Reoch made a great tackle to put the ball out for a corner.
Glenrothes were playing some very neat passing football which ended with an effort from Napier being saved by McLeod.
The Glens doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when another excellent through ball from Simpson found Martin who crossed the ball to Anderson who made no mistake from 12 yards out.
Montrose got themselves back into the game a minute later when a header from Collier skidded off the head of Kinnes and landed in the net.
The chances were coming fast and furious and Thomson struck a shot just past the post.
A fine effort from Simpson was cleared off the line and the end to end stuff continued with a scrabble in the Glens’ box ending with the ball safely in the clutches of Smith.
Montrose started to put the Glens under some pressure as Cruikshank forced Smith into a save.
Smith was to save the Glens again when he finger tipped a shot round the post from Reid.
As the game petered out another scramble in the Glens goal had Smith again smothering the ball.
