The Kingdom Caledonian League champions were the visitors to Duffus Park with Hearts still looking for much needed points and a win that would kick start their season.

But injuries and absentees meant that Cupar were down to the bare bones and included three trialists in the starting 11.

Greig Park enjoyed the majority of the action in the opening stages. Ian Barrett’s free header went wide after a corner sent in by Wayne Davidson.

Then a misplaced pass by Michael Taylor on 18 minutes gifted the visitors the opening when Fraser Moncreiff intercepted and fired home.

On the half hour mark a free kick by Darren Thomas went straight to the ‘keeper and Greig Park were quick to break but this time Fraser Moncreiff could only find the side netting.

Cupar’s injury problems continued when a groin strain forced Tom Russell to be substituted and manager Scott Hudson took to the field with 8 minutes of the half remaining.

The visitors doubled their lead early in the second half through Wayne Davidson who slotted home from an angle.

Then in a disastrous three minute spell Hearts conceded TWO goals just before the whistle.

First, Fraser Moncreiff connected with a Thomas McAlister pass and blasted the ball into the net.

Then ‘keeper James Robson came rushing out and fouled Fraser Moncreiff with the referee immediately pointing to the spot.

The same man stepped up and fired straight down the middle to complete his hattrick.

Ceres Butchers meat tray winner was Ryan McAllister (Greig Park Rangers).

Tomorrow (Saturday) Cupar Hearts host Bowhill Rovers in a League match at Duffus Park.
