There was frustration for all at Tayport last weekend as Dave Baikie’s men found themselves kicking their heels instead of heading into action.

All set to host an East of Scotland Cup tie against Harthill Royal, ’Port received word on the Friday evening that the South Division outfit could not raise a team and would not be travelling to north-east Fife.

This was the first time that the Canniepairt outfit had been faced with such a scenario in their twenty-four years in the junior ranks.

It is expected that the tie will be awarded to Tayport and that Harthill will be fined by the ERSJFA.

So, it was a day off for the ’Port support, as it was not possible to arrange a friendly as an alternative as other clubs were involved in competitive action.

Tomorrow’s opponents, Montrose Roselea, for instance scored an impressive 3-0 victory against Dalkeith Thistle in their East of Scotland Cup fixture.

The Broomfield Parkers will be looking to carry that momentum into Saturday’s East Premier League encounter, while Tayport will be looking to get back to winning ways after drawing with Dalkeith a fortnight ago.

Montrose is a notoriously tough venue with Roselea traditionally providing stern opposition at Broomfield Park.

Their last two league fixtures have seen them lose narrowly to St Andrews United and then to Bathgate Thistle.

Currently, Montrose sit second from bottom, having gleaned only one point from their five matches, with ’Port sitting mid-table, on eight points.

In terms of team news, Dave Baikie hopes to welcome back Ryan Suttie, Dean Rennie and Paul Thomson, all of whom have been unavailable of late.

Their return will add depth to the squad as there have not been many alternatives on the bench in recent weeks.

Matty Adam remains on the treatment table, so Tayport will again look to the likes of Grant Lawson, Gary Sutherland and Kevin Milne to provide the goalscoring threat.

Kick-off at Broomfield Park tomorrow is scheduled for 2.30pm.
