RAITH Rovers will be pretty in pink after teaming up with a local sports retailer to release a charity kit.
Rovers’ will play in a new pink away kit next season to promote the club’s partnership with ACA Sports and Maggie’s Fife, with £2 from every replica strip sold to be donated to the Kirkcaldy-based cancer care charity.
The shirt is sponsored by official club merchandisers, ACA Sports, whose logo will appear on the front of the jerseys, while the logo of our
Maggie’s Centre appears on the shorts.
Chris Lumsden, Raith’s sponsorship development manager, explained: “It is important that we recognise our position as a community club and the strength we have in the local area.
“We are no strangers to supporting charities but this is the first time we will have had one on our first team kit. We saw greater value in this partnership than any commercial opportunities that were open to us.”
Our Maggie’s Centre based at Victoria Hospital celebrates its five-year anniversary since opening in 2006 after a fundraising campaign led by The Fife Free Press.
Tumong Edwards, Maggie’s Fife community fundraiser, is hopeful that the partnership with Rovers will help raise awareness, and bring more men to the centre.
“Currently, one third of our centre users are male and we would like to see that figure rise,” she said. “Having the footballers sport our logos on their strips is a great way of raising awareness amongst their loyal fans and greatly helps us to spread the word about the work we do in helping men, women, families, couples and carers to cope with the impact of cancer on their lives.”
Alistair Cameron, managing director of ACA Sports, added: “We have been retail partners with the club for a number of years and when the away shirt sponsorship arose we were delighted to take the opportunity.
“Our sponsorship is in partnership with Maggie’s Centre in Fife, who are celebrating their 5th anniversary this year.
“We will donate £2 for every away shirt sold throughout the campaign and will also be running a number of fundraising events throughout the year to help continue the fantastic work that takes place at the Maggie’s centre.”
The strip will be available to order from ACA’s website this weekend, and on sale at their High Street store from Monday, August 8.
