Dundee United have wasted no time in making their move for Raith Rovers manager Ray McKinnon with the Kirkcaldy club receiving an official approach from Tannadice just hours after losing their play-off quarter-final to Hibs.

Rovers were contacted this evening by the recently relegated Premiership outfit who asked for permission to speak to McKinnon regarding the vacant manager’s post at United following the sacking of Mixu Paatelainen.

However, Raith have confirmed that they have rejected the approach as the Tangerines failed to make an offer of compensation for their former player, who has a year left on his contract at Stark’s Park.

A short statement on the official Raith website read: “Dundee United FC has this evening published a statement on its website to the effect that an official approach has been made for permission to speak to Ray McKinnon about a position at Tannadice. Permission has not been granted.”

United are keen to land the Raith boss and are expected to return to the table.
