Winger frustrated after loss to Livingston

RAITH Rovers winger Grant Anderson left Livingston a frustrated man after spending most of Saturday’s game stuck in his own half.
Anderson’s responsibilities require him to run the full length of the pitch as part of the team’s need to maintain a balance between defence and attack.
He can often be seen making a tackle in his own box one minute, and delivering a cross into the opposition box the next, but on occasions such as Saturday, it can feel like an impossible job.
Anderson told the Press: “You come away from games like this frustrated because boys like myself and David Smith just want to attack.
“It’s always hard when you play Livingston because they play good attacking football.
“Their full backs trot up the line so that means we’ve got to get up and down the pitch.
“You’ve just got to match up and try to play your own football as well.
“It didn’t really happen for us, but that doesn’t mean you’re not playing well. You’re still doing a job for the team.
“When you’re asking someone to run the full length of the pitch, simply getting to the by-line can be an achievement on its own.
“To follow that up with a decent cross is something else!
“You’ve just got to keep going as hard as you can and do what you can for the team.”
Anderson has struck up a good understanding with right back Jason Thomson - albeit the pair almost knocked each other out as they collided going for the same ball during Saturday’s first half!
“We’ve got a good understanding,” Anderson said.
“I know what he wants to do and he knows what I want to do.
“He’ll overlap all the time, so if I go inside I know I’ve always got that option of Jason on the outside.
“I thought we linked up well on Saturday, although it wasn’t ideal.
“I was sitting on top of him at times, and that doesn’t help either of us.
“He wants me to attack and I want him to defend.”
Anderson was particularly disappointed to lose Saturday’s match due after hearing the Dumbarton had beaten Partick and Dunfermline lost at home to Airdrie.
Not only was it an opportunity missed to close the gap on the top three, it also gave the teams in the relegation zone a chance to close the gap.
“It would’ve been a great three points,” he said.
“Results were a bit crazy so it’s squeaky bum time.
“We need to go on a run, and if you do that in this league, you can climb the ladder.
“We’ve got Hamilton at home next and a win is important because we need to make a wee gap between ourselves and them.”
