Forfar West End 3, Glenrothes Juniors 2
Glenrothes made the trip to Forfar looking for the three points that would keep them within touching distance with the top of the league.
Glens started brightly enough with lots of possession without troubling the Forfar keeper too much.
Things were to take a turn in the 15th minute when a throw in from the left landed at the feet of Hart and Greirson made a somewhat rash tackle to concede a free kick 20 yards out.
Hart took the free kick himself and Gay could only get a fingertip to the ball but not enough to push it round the post - 1-0 Forfar.
Glens had to wait until the 35th minute to get themselves back into the game when Wallace won the ball in his own half and launched it forward to the onrushing Griffin who, with a deft header, sent the ‘keeper the wrong way.
Forfar did not have to wait long to regain the lead when, three minutes later, Gay came rushing out of his box to make a clearance but pushed the ball high in the air.
The ‘keeper came down in the area with Anderson, who was deemed to have fouled the Forfar forward for a penalty. Hart stroked the it away for his second of the match.
Glenrothes were to draw level again in the last minute of the half when John Martin was unceremoniously upended in the box. He stood up to take the penalty himself and duly sent the ‘keeper the wrong way.
The second half was a stuffy affair with Glenrothes’ best chance falling to Martin who took the ball down brilliantly on the edge of the 18 yard box but sclaffed his effort wide.
Forfar got the decisive goal in the 65th minute when Hart completed his hat-trick with a great turn and strike on the edge of the box.
Glenrothes pushed hard to get themselves back into the game for the third time but to no avail.
Glens will make the long trip to Aberdeen next week to face Sunnybank in the Scottish Cup.
