East Fife Violet under 17s restarted their competitive fixtures with a good win over Hutcheson Vale.

On a wet and windswept pitch, Violet imposed themselves from the start with some slick passing moves which immediately put the visiting defence under pressure.

Rebecca Smurthwaite scored the first of her double, with a sweetly struck shot from 25 yards and added another with her left foot shortly after, curling it in at the near post.

Not to be outdone, her striking partner Jennifer Rees, notched a double on her debut before the half time whistle sounded.

Facing the wind in the second half, the Fife side continued to play some excellent football but couldn’t add to their tally in spite of several chances.

Klaudia Walas, who had very little to do in the first half came to her side’s rescue on a number of occasions and kept a clean sheet by saving a late penalty, diving to her right to push the ball to safety.
