Kirkcaldy YM 2, Glenrothes Juniors 3
The Glens made the short trip to play local rivals Kirkcaldy YM.
The game started off evenly but as the half went on Glenrothes started to take control, having the better of the chances and should have taken the lead when a Sean Simpson free kick was just put wide of the post.
The Glens continued to work hard to get the breakthrough and the hard work was rewarded just before half time after a ball by Ian Griffin to Sean Simpson was brilliantly played back through to Griffin.
He found himself one-on-one with the ‘keeper and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
The Glens started the second half where they left off and won a penalty in the 49th minute after Johnny MacRae was fouled in the box.
Sean Simpson stood up to take the penalty and sent it beyond the reach of the YM ‘keeper.
After the goal the Glens had good chances to further increase their lead but were left frustrated by the chances going a begging.
Going two nil down seemed to spark Kirkcaldy into life and they got themselves back into the game, halving the lead in 65th minute after Jamie Gilfillan out jumped the defenders from a corner kick and headed into the net.
Kirkcaldy equalised in the 71st minute after corner kick ended up being cleared to the edge of the box to the YM’s Shaun Grieg who shot through the defenders and into the back of the net.
Being back on level terms reinvigorated Glenrothes and they pushed for the winner.
With two minutes of normal time remaining Callum Wylie slotted past the goalkeeper for what would prove to be the winning goal.
Kirkcaldy tried to get equaliser but they did not give much trouble to the Glens’ back line who held on for a well deserved three points.
The Glens are away to Kirriemuir on Saturday with a 1.45 p.m. kick off.
