Dave Baikie says Tayport’s work ethic and squad togetherness was the key behind their East Premier League title win.

The Canniepairt side finished off a hugely successful season at the weekend when they were beaten at home by Bathgate Thistle.

The defeat was an insignificant blemish on an otherwise faultless campaign, which saw them bounce back to the Super League from relegation the season before at the first time of asking.

The manager hailed the ‘Port players and coaching staff who made not only that happen, but also added the GA Engineering Cup to their season’s haul.

He said: “The bottom line is this group of players has worked together to produce a successful season.

“They have won the league and proved themselves to have been the best team over the course of the campaign.

“The East Premier League is a tight division and there is very little between the teams, so to come out on top is a great achievement – and now we can look forward to top flight football at the Canniepairt next term.

“On top of that, there was the inter-regional GA Cup win, which is the icing on the cake.”

As well as praising his players for their achievement, Baikie was quick to pay tribute to his coaching staff.

“I’d like to thank Mel Irons, Gus Malone, Allan Ramsay, Fraser Mann and physio Norrie Marshall for their invaluable contribution to the cause. “It really is a team effort and so many people play a role.”
