Glenrothes Cricket Club came up against second place Carlton 2s in their final game of the half knowing a win would create a good gap at the top of the table.

Glenrothes lost the toss and were put in to bat first, but got off to the worst start with Fred Culley getting caught at gully in the first over.

Guy Robinson went in to bat next and was soon out LBW, GCC now 8/2 from 5 overs. Robbie Wright came in next and along with Chris started to try rebuild the innings until Robbie was given out LBW for 11, soon followed by Greaves bowled for 13 and GCC in real trouble at 35/4.

Fraser Gosse and Vasu Reddy were the two batsman at the crease; Reddy bowled for 27 and another two quick wickets in Dodds and Braid meant GCC were now in real trouble with the score 99/7.

Rizwan Akbar joined Gosse, who was soon bowled for 40, then Lucas caught for 0.

At 116/9 and Alec Davies out to the crease, Rizwan decided to tea off and the pair just kept batting. Rizwan was last out for 44. 156 all out, a defendable total giving the position GCC had been in.

Rizwan and Robbie opened the bowling and at least half the deliveries in the first eight overs being played and missed.

Rizwan got the second wicket before Reddy came on and took two important wickets to leave Carlton 37/4 with GCC well on top.

Lucas and Greaves were next on to bowl and Lucas got the next two wickets with Carlton now 87/6. Rizwan came back on and picked up the next wicket but then a partnership formed and took them to 139/7 needing 17 off three overs. Robbie got the next wicket with a run out which then lead to Rizwan picking up the next two wickets in three balls to finish 4/11.
