One of the Fife’s leading leisure centres has welcomed its one millionth customer attendance since opening its doors in July 2013.

Staff at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Glenrothes were delighted to celebrate the milestone visit with Graeme Hutchison, from Glenrothes, when he came through the doors of the centre.

In the two years since Fife Sports and Leisure Trust took over the operation of the £21.1 million Fife Council-funded building, the centre has seen attendance figures rise significantly and it has continued to attract customers from the local community and beyond.

Since doors opened, Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre has seen an overall attendance of 1,099,631, made up of 280,120 juniors, 762,809 adults and 56,7020 over-60s.

During this time, attendances made with the trust’s membership scheme, Leisure Active, reached 426,676, and, the trust’s health and physical activity programme, which delivers classes for people living with health conditions, has seen 11,919 attendances.

Graeme was greeted by Scott Urquhart, operations manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, and was presented with a free Silver Leisure Active gym and swim pass.

Scott said: “We’ve been watching attendance figures closely knowing that we were very close to welcoming our millionth customer attendance. We are really pleased that the centre is so popular with customers and it’s great to reach this level of attendance so soon after the centre opened.

“All the staff work hard to deliver high quality facilities and programming and it’s rewarding to be able to recognise the impact the centre is having on the local communities by making leisure and sports opportunities accessible to all.

“Congratulations to Graeme for marking our millionth attendance and we hope that he enjoys the Leisure Active membership which gives unlimited access to this and any other trust facility to help make the most of an active lifestyle.”

Graeme said: “I was a customer of the old Fife Institute and have been coming to Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre since it opened.

“Usually I come to play badminton but I’m looking forward to trying out new activities with my membership.

“The centre is a great facility and I always look forward to my visits.”
