Two pool players from Glenrothes will gain international honours next month.

Aaron Daly and Mark Thomson, who play for Styx Pool Bar and Woodside Inn respectively in the East of Fife Pool League, will represent Scotland at Bridlington in the forthcoming Under 23 European Championships.

Both players will represent Scotland B2 in a 12-team tournament which includes the four home nations as well as France, Cyprus and Republic of Ireland, among others.

Mark was an automatic pick, having just missed out on qualification for the B1 team.

A catering apprentice with Fife Council, he only took up the sport 18 months ago but has already received international honours. Last year, he represented both the Under 18s and the Under 23 side in Ireland.

Engineering student Aaron qualified through a play-off system. He emerged victorious from a six-man event in which he had to see off two other East of Fife players, Marc Taylor and David McIvor.

Aaron said he is “very proud to be representing my country and can’t wait to walk out to the national anthem”.

The three Scotland teams have several Fifers in them.

Other players from the Kingdom are Dunfermline’s Colin DeSwarte, Crossgates’ Graeme Jarrett, Cowdenbeath’s James Jack and Inverkeithing’s World Under 23 Champion, Liam Dunster.
