GLENS IN ACA CUP SEMI BID

GLENROTHES will go head-to-head with Kinnoul on Saturday, with an ACA Sports Central League Cup semi-final place at stake.

The Warout Stadium team set up the Group A decider thanks to a last-gasp winner from Murray Carstairs against Newburgh at the weekend.

Ian Paterson’s side’s hopes of progressing in the competition seemed to be on a shoogly peg when they lost Mikey Lee to a red card ten minutes before half-time.

It was a double blow,
because, five minutes earlier, ‘Burgh had equalised Zane Powell’s opener.

It went from bad to worse early in the second-half when ‘Burgh took the lead from a penalty.

But Powell got his second to draw Glens level and set up that grandstand finish.

Carstairs had netted last Wednesday, when a double from John Martin (left) and an Aiden Anderson goal gave Glens a 4-1 win at Luncarty.

Things looked bright for Thornton Hibs on Saturday when they opened the
scoring at St Andrews United - to where the match had been switched because Memorial Park was flooded - Kris
Maxwell striking after just four minutes.

But Saints scored twice in each half to hand Hibs - who also had Stuart Wilson ordered off - a defeat which was
heavier than the homesters-cum-visitors deserved.

Hibs game against Bankfoot Athletic - one of four which had do be abandoned last
midweek after the heavens opened - has been re-arranged for tonight (Wednesday).
