THE girls from Glenwood High School made the journey to Murrayfield recently to compete in the final of the Under 15s Brewin Dolphin Scottish Shield.
The gala day of girls’ rugby saw the finals in the Cup, Shield and Bowl competitions at both under 15 and under 18 levels.
The second and third year pupils, faced a team from Murrayfield Wanderers and Knox Academy.
Unfortunately it was not to be the girls’ day despite never giving up, and they lost out 78-28.
Coach Nick Burge said: “The experience was very worthwhile for the Glenwood girls despite the result.
“I have raised my concerns to Scottish Rugby about having to play 8-a-side, instead of the anticipated 13-a-side, due to the lack of players from Edinburgh Wanderers/Knox. Whilst we may not have finished the day with a victory, we could have played a game that we had trained hard for.
“The Glenwood girls showed real spirit under very physically demanding circumstances.
“It was great to see the girls compete on this stage and congratulations to Samantha Hancock who was named Glenwood Player of the Match.
“Thanks must go to the four Atholl girls and their coach, who have been playing with the Glenwood girls.”
