WINDYGATES golfer Peter Whiteford made a return to Asia, after an unfortunate previous experience, with a solid weekend showing in the Volvo China Open.
Peter (31) shot an excellent final-day 66 to finish on 276, nine shots behind eventual winner Branden Grace, of South Africa.
In India, in February, Peter was challenging for the lead in the Avanta Masters, only to be disqualified after the third round in a bizarre moving ball incident.
However, he got himself into midway contention at the Tianjin course in China with a 70 and 68, followed by 72 and his superb 66.
Meanwhile, Julie Otto, of Elie Sports Club, a five-time Curtis Cup player, is launching a new career as a professional in the Powerade PGA Assistants’ Championship.
Julie (45) tees off in the qualifier at Auchterarder on Monday, in the hope of securinge a place in the £33,000 final which is being held at the East Sussex National from June 13-15.
