The Royal and Ancient Golf Club’s Local Clubs’ Gold Medal Competition, regarded as the Men’s Strokeplay Championship of St Andrews, was played over The Old Course on Sunday.

This 122nd staging of the Gold Medal saw a field of 58 made up of 36 competitors from the St Andrews Golf Club, 12 from the New Golf Club, eight from The University of

St Andrews Golf Club and two from The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

After round one, the lead was held by Brian Young, of St Andrews Golf Club, with a scratch score of 66.

LOWEST

The 12 competitors with the lowest round one scores, and those tied for 12th place, qualified for round two.

The qualifying score was 74, and 14 competitors made the cut.

After this round, runner-up was James Bunch from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, with a 36-hole aggregate score of 141 (67 and 74).

Winner of the Gold Medal and the “2012 Champion of the Links”, with a 36-hole aggregate score of 138 (66 and 72) was Brian Young, from St Andrews Golf Club.
