TWO of the area’s players made it as far as round four of last week’s Scottish Amateur Golf Championship at Royal Dornoch.

James White, of Lundin, departed in the last 32 after a three and two defeat by Gordon Stevenson (Whitecraigs).

White had seen off Neil Henderson, Mark McKechnie and Nick Robson in the earlier rounds.

Elie Golf House Club’s Keith Shanks – preparing for this weekend’s Gold Medal at Leven (see left) – reached the same stage before going down by one hole to beaten semi-finalist Bryan Fotheringham of Inverness.

The East Neuk player had previously ended the challenges of Colin Brodie, John McMahon and Neil Melvin.

Number two seed Brian Soutar, of Leven Golfing Society, was eliminated at the second-round stage, losing four and three to Jamie Savage of Cawdor.

First-round exits were made by Greg Forrester (Lundin) and David Mitchell (Leven Thistle).

The title was claimed by Grant Forrest (Craigielaw), who won nine and seven against Bearsden’s Richard Docherty – another Gold Medal entrant, along with Stevenson and Henderson.
