Prior to Thornton’s 5-2 win over Arbroath the opposition had enjoyed five consecutive clean sheets.

They did it the hard way, coming from behind after Joshua Chalmers had given the visitors an 18th minute lead.

This lead was short-lived though as Mathew Gay smashed home a 16 yard equaliser.

Ian Hepburn’s controlled volley from outside the area put Thornton ahead on the half hour mark before Gay doubled this lead.

In the time added on at the end of the first-half there was, incredibly, still time for a further two goals, both from the penalty spot.

Garry Warren reduced the deficit to one and then Chris Ireland netted.

There was only one more goal in the second-half – Mathew Gay completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute .

On Saturday Hibs travel to Downfield.

Dundonald went down 5-2 to title chasing St Andrews.

Bluebell felt they were on the receiving end of some incorrect calls from the officials and were left frustrated to have shipped all three points.

Two goals from Walton were all Craig Morrison’s side had to show for their efforts.

This weekend they travel to Oakley.

YM’s long beaten run came to an end with a 4-2 victory over Lochore Welfare.

Callum Ramsay, Grant McManus, Joe Kininmonth and a Trialist A were all on the scoresheet. It was a good performance across the park and Liall Robertson was the star man.

On Saturday YM travel to Kirrie Thistle.
