THE AUTUMN Cup provided the perfect warm-up to the new ice hockey season.

Now Fife Flyers are looking forward to the real action starting this weekend.

A big crowd is expected at Fife Ice Arena on Saturday for the first competitive fixture – a Challenge Cup match against Edinburgh Capitals.

The Autumn Cup winners then get their league campaign underway on Sunday with a daunting trip to the Skydome to face Coventry Blaze.

Player-coach Todd Dutiaume (pictured) is expecting two tough games.

“Edinburgh have added Martin Cingel and have a defenceman or two coming in so we’re expecting more out of them than we saw in the Autumn Cup,” he said.

“We’ve already got two great wins, and another week’s practice under our belts, so hopefully our home opener goes according to plan.

“We lost 9-0 to Coventry in their home opener last season so it goes without saying we’ll be looking to improve on that.

“We have a fuller and more experienced squad, so we’ll look to grind out a dirty road win.”
