FIFE Flyers player-coach Todd Dutiaume has challenged his new-look team to restore the club’s pride by winning a trophy this weekend.

The new ice hockey season gets underway at Fife Ice Arena with the inaugural Autumn Cup involving all four Scottish Elite League Clubs.

Flyers finished last season at the bottom of the EIHL and Dutiaume wants to get the club’s 75th season off to a winning start.

“If we were fortunate enough to win this cup I’d be absolutely delighted, he told the Press.

“I couldn’t have asked for more ice time over the past two weeks, and we’ll have our entire squad in, so we’re certainly ambitious to make a big mark.

“Last year was a difficult one for us as coaching staff, the team and the fans, who stuck by us even though they were left frustrated by some of our performances.

“If we can pay them back with a successful weekend I’d be absolutely delighted.

“It would go a long way towards repairing some team confidence.” T

The format of the Autumn Cup will see the four Scottish EIHL clubs compete in a knock-out competition at Fife Ice Arena.

The first semi-final between Dundee Stars and Braehead Clan takes place on Saturday at 5.00 p.m with Flyers taking on Edinburgh Capitals at 8.00 p.m.

The winners meet in the final on Sunday at 8.00 p.m with the third/fourth place play-off starting at 5.00 p.m. Fans can pay at the door.
