AN AUCHTERMUCHTY man has been honoured for his contribution to grassroots football in the town.

Jimmy Leitch (51) was presented with the Scottish Football Association east region’s ‘Best Volunteer in Adult Football’ trophy before the Scotland under-21 game in Dunfermline last Tuesday evening.

The award recognised Jimmy’s 30 years’ service to Auchtermuchty Bellvue amateurs as a player, coach and manager.

He was nominated for the honour by ‘Muchty locals Brian and Katrina Walker.

Jimmy, who picked up his award to warm applause on the East End Park pitch, said: “I was very chuffed to be given the award.

“I’ve been involved in amateur football since I was 10 years old, when I went to watch my uncle play.

“Bellvue were formed in 1981, when I was 20, and I began as a player for the club. I started to run the team in the mid-90s.

“I’ve done it ever since, and it’s been a lot of hard work.”
