St Regulus Ladies Golf Club has announced that one of its members, Lauren Whyte, has become the new Paul Lawrie Foundation Scottish under 18 girls’ champion.

Sixteen-year-old Lauren beat Carnoustie Ladies’ Ailsa Summers (18) by 4 and 2 with six birdies on her final round card over Crail Golfing Society’s Craighead course.
Lauren took out the top seed and 2010 champion Lesley Atkins (Gullane Ladies) in the quarter finals by seven and six, and played quality golf again in semi-final match against her Scottish doubles partner of the previous week in Germany, Rachel Walker, (Dumfries and County) to win on the 18th green.

This match saw the eighth hole halved in eagles.

Lauren is now off to Hungary to represent Scotland in next week’s European Young Masters at Royal Balaton GC.

As well as congratulating Lauren on her achievement St Regulus also heaped praise on two other juniors, Ally Tait and Chloe Goadby, for qualifying in the top 32 for Flight A matchplay.

A spokeperson for the club said: “We are delighted to have such a strong core of juniors and are always on the lookout for more girls (aged nine upwards) to join us and become possible future champions!”
