Cupar Swimming Club

SWIMMERS from Cupar and District Swimming Club made an extremely profitable visit to the recent Carnegie So Long Distance Meet held at Glenrothes.

Teams from all over Scotland – from the Lothians to Inverness – took part in the gala.

A compact group of swimmers aged 11-12 years, who have been focussing on technique with the club’s head coach, produced some brilliant results, which justified all the hard work put in by both swimmers and coaches over the last few months.

Best performance over the weekend was Lewis Baillie, who won gold in 200m breast, 200m IM and 200m back, as well as silver in 200m free, all with great improvements in his personal best times.

Also in the medals were Oliver Carter, with two silvers in the 200m fly and 800m free, Leon Rann with a silver in the 200m back and a bronze in the 200m free, Abby Hay with a bronze in the 200m fly and Jimmy Brooks a bronze in the 200m back.

Oliver Carter also came fourth in the 200m back, making it a one, two, three, four for Cupar, and fourth in the 400m free.

Abby also picked up a fourth place in the 400m free.

Catriona Cleary took a massive 20 seconds off her 200m fly time and Callum MacPherson improved on his 200m free personal best time.

New members always welcome at Cupar and District Swimming Club. Tel. 01334 828369 or come along to Cupar Sports Centre on Thursday at 6pm or on Saturday at 8am for a swimming assessment.
