Anster Haddies

THERE were 42 runners out in their high visibility gear for the first race of the winter Mars Bar series.

Over the next five months, the inhabitants of Anstruther will become used to the monthly phenomenon that is the Mars Bar series, as the Haddies take on the four-mile circuit of the town. Each month, the runners will try to win points in the tournament by improving on their previous best time.

It was a good start to the series for seven Haddies who each had personal best times. Ailsa Cruickshanks scored 28:39, Hazel Bradley 28:40, Alice Hall 30:06, Elise Methven 30:39, Tracy Knox 33:03, Yvonne Dehn 33:40 and Jim Hogsflesh 36:26.

Three of the Haddies’ ladies were in Cumbernauld for the Cross Country Championships.

Hazel Bradley finished in 19:53, Pamela Cruickshanks in 20:27 and Christine Bowie in 20:56.

Ewan Lumsden was down in the scenic Scottish Borders on Sunday at the Jedburgh Half Marathon. He finished in 1:37:32.

There will be a Haddies Quiz at 7pm on Saturday night at Legends in Anstruther, so you can dust down your thinking caps for some general knowledge fun.

It’s for teams of four and entrants can come along on the night and pay at the door. Non-members are welcome.
