KINROSS athlete Eilidh Child is just days away from embarking on her quest for Olympic glory.

The 25-year-old’s 400m hurdles campaign gets under way with Monday’s heats, followed by the semi-finals on Tuesday.

And if all goes according to plan, the former Kinross Primary School pupil will be lining up alongside the world’s best in Thursday’s final in the Olympic Stadium.

Eilidh, who grew up competing for Pitreavie AAC in Fife, qualified for the London Games in June and has since been devoting herself to preparing for the event.

RIVALS

Her main rivals for the medal positions are likely to be the Olympic record holder, Melaine Walker of Jamaica, as well as the American athlete Lashinda Demus and Russian duo Natalya Antyukh and Irina Davydova.

Eilidh, who is currently on sabbatical from her job as a PE teacher at Perth Grammar School, was the first Scot to make the Team GB athletics squad for London 2012.

She is hoping to emulate the success of fellow British athlete Tasha Danvers, who won bronze in the 400m hurdles at the Beijing Olympics four years ago.
