FIFE AC athlete Halina Rees, from the East Neuk, posted two winning performances within three days last week over decidedly different terrain.

The Crail runner placed 15th overall at last Wednesday’s Hill of Tarvit Race, taking the female award, having overhauled early leader Sheena Jack soon after the halfway turning point. Halina completed the 5.5 mile tough course in 39 minutes 26 seconds.

Under-20 junior Zach Delaney, Cellardyke, was a clear overall winner in 33.54, ahead of eight times winner Chris Russell (34.29).

On Friday, Halina was back in action at the Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth, winning the over-17 girls 1500m steeplechase title in five mins 23.69 seconds to go 10th on the UK under-20 rakings lists for 2012. Leading results from Hill of Tarvit:

Zach Delany was also back in action, following his Hill of Tarvit win, finishing second, first junior at the Glenrothes Road Running Festival 10km on Sunday.

Zach recorded 35 minutes dead again, finishing ahead of third-placed Chris Russell, a three time previous winner.

Amir McKimmie placed 19th overall, second female with Sheen Jack 24th/third female and Rhona van Rensburg 30th/fourth female.

The Strawberry two-mile novice run is June 19, starting at 7.45pm. Children’s 1km races start at 7pm and 7.15pm with the junior two-mile at 7.30pm.
