Kirkland carries Scottish hopes

SIX secondary pupils from Kirkland High School are heading south next month to represent Scotland in a schools gymnastics competition.

Having participated in the Scottish heats of the floor, vault and group competition, a qualifier open to all schools in Scotland, the S1-S5 pupils clinched bronze position to be sure of their place at Stoke-on-Trent in March.

Kirkland’s pupils will compete in the U16 age category of the Carita House Plate finals.

Jennifer Mann, active schools co-ordinator, said the girls had a lot of local support, as well as working extremely hard.

They not only trained at their weekly after school club but also twice a week at Enigma Gymnastics Club, a newly formed outlet specialising in schools gymnastics and based at Kirkland.

“Running up to this competition, the girls also trained once a week at Buckhaven High School,” added Jennifer. “Without such local partnerships, this result would not have happened.”
