Lundin wait for title joy

LUNDIN Sports travelled to their nearest challengers Scone in a potential title decider, where a win would guarantee Lundin the Division 5 championship.

Heading into the final round of matches, Scone were leading 3½ to 2½ and Lundin were hoping for a heroic comeback.

Rolland and Kerr gave the visitors hope with a win over the previously unbeaten pairing of Cunningham and Hadden, running out 6-2, 6-3 winners.

In the battle of the third couples, Hill and Mudie gelled brilliantly to win 6-1, 6-3.

These two fine wins meant the match was down to the tie between Cowan and Mackie and Dye and Murray.

The home side took the first set 7-6 in a very tight tie break with Cowan leading the charge for Lundin, playing some attacking tennis.

In the deciding set, it looked lost for the visitors as they faced two match points at 5-3, with Dye serving, only to play two stunning shots to save both of them and then break the Dye serve to keep themselves in the match.

Lundin were leading four points to two in a tie-break when the floodlights went out because of a planning curfew, and no way of turning them back on.

This resulted in Lundin winning the match 4½-4, with one set not completed.
